Hundreds of people who were killed or captured in the clashes that took place on 6 January in Aleppo, Deir Hafer and the Raqqa-Tabqa line are still unaccounted for.
Many people lost their lives and some were imprisoned in attacks by gangs affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government. The Syrian Democratic Forces have stated that there are suspicions that some of those captured in certain areas have been executed. Numerous images circulating on social media reinforce these suspicions.
Relatives of the prisoners and missing persons made a statement in front of the United Nations headquarters in Qamishlo, calling on international institutions and organisations, as well as human rights organisations, to be sensitive and take action.
As required by the agreement signed with the Syrian Democratic Forces on 29 January, Ahmed al-Sharaa’s Interim Government must quickly return the bodies of those captured in the war and those who lost their lives to their families and the Syrian Democratic Forces.
As People’s Bridge, we call on all human rights organisations and monitoring centres, progressive, democratic institutions and organisations, and intellectuals everywhere to expose the inhumane war methods and crimes of the Ahmed al-Shara regime and its affiliated gangs, to increase international pressure for the disclosure of the fate of prisoners and those who lost their lives, and to mobilise European states on this basis.
