Call to action: Hundred of civilians still missing in SyriaSince the Syrian transitional government’s attacks on Kurdish neighborhoods in Aleppo on January 6, which violated international law, hundreds of SDF fighters, civilians, and journalists are still missing, including German freelance journalist Eva Maria Michelmann and Kurdish journalist Ahmet Polad. The agreement between the SDF and the Syrian transitional government on January 29 includes a prisoner exchange, but this is being blocked by the Syrian transitional government under al-Sharaa. More than four weeks later, it is not even clear who among the disappeared is still alive or where they are being held captive. Even though a few prisoners were released on March 2, we demand that a comprehensive prisoner exchange take place.Numerous reports describe summary executions of SDF fighters by the Damascus armed forces.Since then, families and relatives have been protesting in Qamishlo, demanding the release of the prisoners or at least information about their whereabouts.
As People’s Bridge, we call for mass actions and demonstrations to be organized in European cities to demand information about the whereabouts and lives of the disappeared people and the release of the prisoners. We call for actions to be organized in front of EU institutions, UN institutions, and Syrian embassies and consulates. European states are working closely with the Syrian transitional government. Al-Sharaa’s government is thus receiving financial, political, and diplomatic support from Europe
.Let us increase the pressure on the Syrian transitional government and the international community here in Europe today!
