This brochure, entitled ‘Who are the Kurds?’, aims to provide readers with a comprehensive insight into the history, present-day situation and lived realities of the Kurdish people.

With the developments in the Middle East and the current political processes in Turkey and Syria – including the context of war between the US, Israel and Iran – the Kurdish people are once again moving increasingly into the public spotlight.

The aim of this brochure is to place the Kurdish people and their historical homeland, Kurdistan, in their historical context and to situate them within the framework of current political developments.

We as the Rojava solidarity organisation People’s Bridge hope that this brochure will help to raise public awareness of Kurdish society and its history.

Particular emphasis is placed on the Rojava Revolution and its achievements, the defence of which is a central concern of ours. This social project continues to face considerable political and military pressure.

The revolution’s achievements are struggling for survival, and their defence is therefore a top priority.
