Conference Invitation: One Year After Assad’s Fall – What Perspectives for the Revolution in North-East Syria?

One year ago, after more than 10 years of civil war in Syria, the regime of Bashar al-Assad fell during the offensive by the reactionary forces of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies. These forces also targeted Kurdish populations and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (Shehba, Manbij, Tishrin). This led to forced displacements of tens of thousands of people, mainly Kurds who had already been displaced from Afrin.

The following months saw waves of massacres against Druze and Alawite minorities, as well as an increase in attacks on women and LGBTI people across the country.

In the region, U.S. imperialism and its allies (notably Israel and Turkey) are working to liquidate any resistance to their projects.

In this context, what prospects exist for the revolution in North-East Syria and the Middle East? How can we in Europe concretely support progressive forces and peoples fighting against oppression?

To discuss these questions, we are organizing a conference/discussion with Arif Çelebi (editor for the communist magazine Marksist Teori) on Saturday, January 10 at 2:45 p.m. at the Bourse du Travail in Paris.

This event will take place after the demonstration calling for justice and truth for Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez, as well as Mîr Perwer, Abdurahman Kızıl and Evîn Goyî, who were respectively assassinated in Paris in 2013 and 2022.

We invite all conference participants to join the demonstration first.
